How To: Change Employee Tax Withholding to Resident State

How To: Change Employee Tax Withholding to Resident State

The UKG system will use employee work location (cost center) and home address to determine the tax withholding state(s).  The default setting for tax withholding is Enforce Reciprocity.  When using the Enforce Reciprocity setting, rules are applied between the resident and non-resident states. When Reciprocity exists between the two states, resident taxes are withheld. The 'Non-Residency Statement Filed' checkbox must be checked for each employee's non-resident (work) state when reciprocity exists. When a reciprocal agreement does not exist, the resident state may allow a credit for taxes paid in the non-resident state and the system will account for it.to allow the system to make the determination if reciprocal state withholding agreement exist.

This setting may be overridden on the employee's record under Tax Information / State

Under State Reciprocity Actions, select Edit

Select Resident Only and Save.  The resident only setting overrides default system rules. Employees are taxed based on the resident state. All wages (resident/non-resident) are included in the tax calculation.
